Ulu Yam

Last weekend we did another hike at a place just behind the Batu Caves called Ulu Yam (about 40 min. drive from here). It was an even larger group, with about 20 adults + kids. Again Alyssa amazed me, hiking the almost 7 km all on her own ~ the magic of other child hikers. It was much more difficult than we expected, but great exercise and fresh, rainforest air.

Stopping to check out the gorgeous view from one of the openings. Amazingly enough, we saw a couple hornbills flying in. Super cool and well worth the hike!

the view
You can't see it in the photo due to the humid haze, but nestled at the bottom was a small kampung

Kathleen ~ my 5:30 a.m. running buddy and inspiration
...and let's not forget freaky Ivan

Part of the group...seriously, getting everyone in one photo at the waterfall was a near impossibility (herding cats one might say)
Next weekend, Sungai Chilling Waterfall ~ hiking during Ramadan is great because when you're fasting, who wants to go hiking/picnicking on the trail ~ making them a little less busy and crowded.
